Ichi-go ichi-e [Japanese: 一期一会, lit. "one time, one meeting"] is a Japanese four-character idiom [yojijukugo] that is deeply connected to the formal tea ceremony, and where those gathered honor their time as if it were a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Pronounced ee-chi-go, ee-chi-ay, this cultural concept emphasizes the uniqueness of the moment, since it won't ever happen exactly that way again. The term is often translated as, for this time only or, one chance in a lifetime or, one encounter, one opportunity.
